Interesting Links for April 25th, 2011

Link RoundupA few interesting links about Photography, Technology, Social Media, and Gadgets that I’ve come across recently. Some are smart, some are funny, and some are just plain dumb, but they are all interesting for one reason or another. Have a look and let me know what you think:

  • New Lightroom Plugin: as Close to “Layers in Lightroom” as You’re Going To Get
It still needs some work, but this plugin is going to be cool! This one truly is a Game Changer! Or it might be eventually…
  • Layers in Lightroom and Aperture?
Skip to the end for some excellent advice with regard to whether you should purchase OnOne Perfect Layers or not. It totally depends on whether you already own a version of Photoshop or not (any version at all), and the final release price of Perfect Layers. But keep in mind that no matter what anyone says, Perfect Layers does NOT provide Layers IN Lightroom. It's just another external editor that provides a limited set of functionality already available in many other programs…
  • SwiftKey keyboard updates in beta2
SwiftKey is my facorite keyboard for Android and I'm looking forward to seeing some improvements to it!
  • A perfect shot – in the foot?
A great summary of the situation with OnOne Perfect Layers, which has been coined by the producer as "bringing Layers to Lightroom" even though it does nothing of the sort. It is merely another overpriced external editor with a limited set of functionality that is already available in many other programs.
  • What we REALLY want in a Photoshop iPad App!
I wish this titled referenced Tablets rather than iPad's, because you can do so much more with an Android device than Apple will ever allow in an iPad app…
  • Blurb plug-in for Bookify – John Beardsworth
The just announced Lightroom 3 to Bookify Plug-In is very interesting because of what it suggests might come in the future! Here's an article from John Beardsworth that lays some of that out…
  • Real Estate Photographer Marketing Needs to Be Targeted
"When real estate photographers charge $75 to come to a property, spend an hour plus, then go home and spend another hour plus on the job they are “broadcasting” that, they are not professional and what they are doing is not valuable."
  • Camera Gear Costs More Right Now
I warned you that prices were going up. It's going to get worse to , so there's still time to get your gear now before stuff really peaks…
  • Google Experimental Search
You've probably heard about the +1 experiment at Goolge, but it's not obvious how to enable. Here's the way…
  • Say Goodbye to Flip Video
Flip Video cameras have been insanely popular to anyone that has ever tried one due to their simplicity. But apparently that didn't translate to sales and now Cisco is shutting the line down…
  • F-You. Pay Me.
A great discussion about how to deal with difficult clients, and to do the up front work to prevent clients from becoming difficult. Every Freelancer should watch this.

Photoshelter Promo / Referral Code

Photoshelter Promo Code: SE5PH32Y9C

I’ve had an account at Photoshelter for many years that I use to sell stock photography images. If you’re interested you can check out my collection of Landscape and Wildlife Photos from the Canadian Rocky Mountains and Prairies at www.Sean-Phillips.com. PhotoShelter is a great service that handles online sales, advertising, and high resolution file distribution. It’s a great way to attract new clients and it throws lots of Google juice towards my photography collection.

I just realized that Photoshelter has a referral system, and that can help both of us! If you’re planning to sign up with Photoshelter you can save some money by using this referral code. I will get a small kickback too, but the important thing is that you can save $5 to $30 on your Photoshelter seller account.

You can also just enter code SE5PH32Y9C when you sign up.
